Shorebirds Game Notes vs. Hagerstown

PREVIEW: The Shorebirds got off to a good start in their series with the Hagerstown Suns. After a quiet series offensively at Greensboro, Delmarva knocked around the Suns for 8 runs on 17 hits on Friday evening. Hunter Harvey delivered a solid outing for his seventh win, while Chance Sisco extended his hitting streak to 18 games, the longest by a Shorebird this year.

TODAY'S OPPONENT: Lucas Giolito will start game two for Hagerstown. Giolito has gone 4-2 with a 2.47 ERA for Hagerstown this season. The Suns' right-hander has started twice against Delmarva, pitching eight scoreless innings combined with just five hits surrendered. However, Giolito struggled his last time out, giving up four runs on seven hits to the Lakewood BlueClaws. The Nationals selected Giolito in the 1st round of the 2012 MLB Draft.

19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.

ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles lost by a walkoff three-run home run from Josh Donald- son on Friday night. In the series opener at Oakland, the A's erased a 4-2 deficit in the 9th inning with their All-Star third baseman playing the hero. Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop each hit home runs in the Baltimore loss.

THE IRON IS HOT: 19 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013. The IronBirds put together an impressive season, making the playoffs for the first time in their 12-year franchise history. Aberdeen won the McNamara Division in the New York-Penn League with a 40-32 record. The IronBirds lost in the first round of the NYPL play- offs, losing 2 games to 0 against the Tri-City Valley Cats.

GREGORY LORENZO | OF

The Shorebirds outfielder has raised up his game since the All-Star Break. Lorenzo is hitting .306 in 27 games in the second half, compared to .243 in the first half. His on-base percentage is .370, up from .303 in the first half. Lorenzo already has 15 RBIs since the break, which is more than the 11 RBIs he collected in 62 games before the All-Star Game.

WHO'S HOT - GARRETT CORTRIGHT

Since allowing a home run to Trey Michalcze- wski during his Shorebirds' debut, Cortright has not allowed another run. His last appear- ance was a scoreless 9th inning vs. Hager- stown, now five apps without a run allowed.

WHO ELSE - CHANCE SISCO

The Shorebirds catcher is batting .416 (47- for-113) in 26 games in the second half. Sisco is now 1st in the SAL with a .352 batting av- erage. Sisco is currently on a 18-game hitting streak, going back to June 30th.
