Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Adam Engel had four hits while Christian Stringer and Danny Hayes each had three as Kannapolis topped the BlueClaws 8-4 on Saturday night at CMC Northeast Stadium.

The teams have now split the first two games of the series and Lakewood's (11-19/38-61) brief two-game win streak was snapped.

Kannapolis (16-14/50-52) scored one run in each of the first three innings against BlueClaws starter Matt Imhof. A Danny Hayes RBI single made it 1-0 in the first (an unearned run). TJ Williams homered in the second inning and Hayes added an RBI double in the third inning.

Imhof, a 2nd round pick of the Phillies in this June's draft, came out after those three innings having allowed three runs/two earned on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

The BlueClaws took a 4-3 lead with two in the 4th inning and a two-run double in the 5th inning by Mitch Walding. The lead, however, was short-lived, as Will Morris surrendered two runs in the bottom of the 5th on an RBI single by Stringer and an RBI single by Hayes.

Morris (1-2) took the loss while Matt Abramson (1-5), who gave up two runs in three innings, got his first win of the season.

Mitch Walding had three hits in four at bats for Lakewood, including his two-run double in the 5th inning. Walding is now 18 for his last 47 with 11 doubles and a home run. Carlos Tocci and Andrew Knapp each had two hits for the BlueClaws.

The series continues on Sunday at 5:05. RHP Tyler Viza (3-13) starts for Lakewood opposite LHP Jeff McKenzie (1-2).
