Doubleheader: Each game is seven-innings tonight with a 30-minute break in between games.

Stat of the Night: The Shorebirds played five doubleheaders last season. They went 2-8. The first doubleheader didn't come until May 18th.

PREVIEW:

After a nail-biting 2-1 win in the opener on Thursday and a postponement on Friday, the Shorebirds and Grasshoppers meet for a doubleheader tonight. Orioles first round selection Manny Machado blasted the eventual game-winning triple in the bottom of the sixth inning to score both runs. Brenden Webb drew a lead off walk and Mychal Givens singled him to third before the Machado hit. The Shorebirds bullpen tossed five scoreless innings and held the Grasshoppers to just hit in the final five innings.

MACHADO TOP SHORTSTOP PROSPECT:

In the most recent edition of Baseball America, Shorebirds shortstop Manny Machado was tabbed as the top overall shortstop prospect in professional baseball.

BULLPEN DELIVERS:

Chris Petrini, Clay Schrader and David Walters combined to shutdown the Grasshoppers from the fifth inning forward on Thursday night. Petrini threw three scoreless innings in middle relief, Schrader threw the eighth inning and David Walters picked up his tenth career minor league save.

DOUBLE PLAY #1:

The dynamic double play combo of Machado and Givens turned their first double play of the 2011 season on Thursday night in the seventh inning. Greensboro had the lead off man aboard when Pedro Mendoza grounded to Givens who started the 4-6-3 double play.

CAMERON ROTH GETS NOD (More on Page 10):

Cameron Roth will make a spot start in game two of the doubleheader tonight. Roth is not unfamiliar with the starting role as he made 12 starts last season for the Bluefield Orioles. In 55.1 innings pitched, he struck out 47 batters and walked 21. Roth celebrated his 22nd birthday on April 5. He played his college baseball at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. The Poquoson, Virginia native was selected in the 29th round of the 2010 First Year Player Draft.
