Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

SALISBURY, Md. -- The Delmarva Shorebirds returned to town in style with an offensive power display in their annual exhibition against Salisbury University. The Shorebirds blasted three home runs to delight the home crowd with an exciting teaser to Thursday's season opener.

Delmarva opened the scoring in the first inning. A misplayed pop fly aided the Shorebirds' rally with Conor Bierfeldt capitalizing with an RBI single. Riley Palmer lifted a sacrifice fly to put Delmarva up 2-0 after one inning.

Jomar Reyes, the youngest Shorebird on the break camp roster, drilled a home run in his first at-bat with Delmarva. The solo blast by the 18-year-old extended the lead to 3-0 in the second inning.

Salisbury got on the board in the third inning, scoring a single tally off Bennett Parry. The Shorebirds' lefty start went five innings, allowing one run on three hits. The Seagulls' lone run came after a leadoff double by Tyler Hyrcak, followed by an RBI single by Danny Breen. Ryan Daiss also impressed in relief for Salisbury by striking out the side in order in the third.

The Shorebirds kept their foot on the gas pedal, scoring ten runs in the final three innings. Jared Breen and Jay Gonzalez strung together back-to-back two-out RBI singles in the fourth inning. In the fifth, Conor Bierfeldt launched a two-run moonshot down the left field line. The four-run sixth frame was highlighted by a three-run home run by Logan Uxa that just hooked inside the right field foul pole.

After Parry's strong start, Nik Nowottnick, a native of Preston, Maryland, threw a perfect inning in relief. Dariel Delgado closed out the 13-1 victory with a 1-2-3 seventh inning. The Shorebirds' 13 runs were the most in the exhibition series with Salisbury since it began in 2010.

Delmarva now prepares for Opening Night on Thursday, April 9th when they host the Greensboro Grasshoppers. A pair of southpaws will square off for the clubs, John Means for Delmarva and Michael Mader for Greensboro. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
