Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
SALEM, VA: The Delmarva Shorebirds (27-36) dropped the series finale to the Salem Red Sox (30-32) on Father's Day by a score of 10-4.
Samuel Basallo put the Shorebirds ahead early as he belted his sixth home run of the season off the Video Board in the opening inning to make it 1-0 Delmarva. Trendon Craig followed him up with a triple and he would score moments later on a sacrifice fly by Isaac Bellony to push the lead to 2-0.
Adam Crampton then cranked his first professional homer in the second inning as his solo shot gave the Shorebirds a 3-0 advantage.
The Red Sox then rallied in the bottom of the frame as Ederso Lira homered over the wall in left to make it a 3-1 game. They'd add another run on with an RBI single by Alexis Hernandez to trim the Delmarva lead to 3-2.
The Shorebirds used the home run ball again in the fourth as Randy Florentino sent one over the wall in right field to give Delmarva a 4-2 advantage.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Salem offense got hot as they generated four runs on five hits to grab their first lead of the game at 7-4.
It remained 7-4 into the eighth inning until the Red Sox put three more insurance runs on the board with RBIs coming from Allan Castro, Luis Ravello, and Jhostynxon Garcia to put the Shorebirds in a 10-4 hole.
Delmarva would put a pair of runners on in the ninth but failed to score and the Red Sox would go on to win 10-4 to take five of seven in the series against the Shorebirds.
Railin Perez (1-2) was the winning pitcher in relief for Salem with Alfred Vega (2-2) taking the loss for Delmarva. Jonathan Brand (3) was awarded the save by getting the final five outs.
The Shorebirds matched their season-high by hitting three home runs on Sunday afternoon, led by Samuel Basallo who hit his sixth of the season, he'd fall just a triple shy of the cycle. Adam Crampton finished the day with two hits including his first career home run in the second inning.
Delmarva now returns home to begin a new series against the Augusta GreenJackets with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday night.
