June 18, 2023 - Carolina League (CarL)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
The Lynchburg Hillcats pick up their second series win of the season after knocking off the Charleston RiverDogs on Sunday afternoon by a score of 3-2.
For the Hillcats, they also win the season series between the two squads. They were carried by Robert Lopez, who accounted for all three of the teams runs.
Charleston struck first in the first inning as Dominic Keegan picked up his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot to left field. Lynchburg would match it in the fourth inning as Robert Lopez would curl one just inside the foul pole in right field for a solo shot of his own.
With the game tied in the sixth, Guy Lipscomb would walk to lead off the inning with Tyresse Turner reaching on a dropped third strike. They would both move into scoring position before Robert Lopez would drive them home with a soft line drive to center field. For Lopez, they were his second and third RBI's of the game.
In the seventh, the RiverDogs would get a run back as Odalys Peguero would double home Carlos Colmenarez to trim into the deficit.
However, the bullpen tandem of Miguel Vinicio and Samuel Vasquez would combine to shut down the RiverDogs in the eighth and ninth for the victory.
Lynchburg will be on the road this coming week to take on the Carolina Mudcats in a six-game series to wrap up the first half. The Hillcats will return home June 28th through July 9th for a 12-game homestand against the Delmarva Shorebirds and Salem Red Sox. The series begins on Wednesday the 28th and the Hillcats will play 12-straight games at Bank of the James Stadium.
