Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (3-16) fell short against the Fredericksburg Nationals (13-7) on Saturday night by a score of 7-5.

The Shorebirds fell behind early as the Nationals scored three runs in the second on three bases-loaded walks.

Delmarva would pull within striking distance in the third on a two-run homer by Anderson De Los Santos, his first of the season, making it a 3-2 game in favor of Fredericksburg.

With the game still 3-2 in the top of the sixth, the Nationals pushed their lead back to two with a wild pitch that scored Brenner Cox from third base.

In the next half-inning, the Shorebirds countered thanks to Alfredo Velasquez who delivered a timely, two-out base hit that scored both Thomas Sosa and Doug Hodo, tying the game at four.

It would stay tied at four entering the eighth inning, but the Fred Nats regained the lead on an RBI single by Everett Cooper III, followed by a two-run double by Brandon Pimentel to make it a 7-4 Fredericksburg advantage.

Doug Hodo trimmed the deficit down to two thanks to a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning, his second of the year made it 7-5. However, that's as close as Delmarva could get as they would fall to the Nationals, 7-5.

Bubba Hall (3-0) earned the win in relief with Brayner Sanchez (0-1) taking the loss for Delmarva. Thomas Schultz (4) picked up the save recording the final six outs.

The series concludes Sunday at 2:05 p.m. as Nestor German makes his second start of the week versus Travis Sthele for the Nationals.
