Shorebirds Catcher Gabriel Lino Part of Jim Thome Deal

Salisbury, Md. - The Baltimore Orioles announced on Saturday night that Shorebirds catcher Gabriel Lino and former pitcher Kyle Simon have been traded to the Philadelphia Phillies for Jim Thome.

Lino played in 56 games this season for the Shorebirds and batted .218 with four home runs and 18 RBIs. The 19-year old had ten multi-hit games including a four-hit game on April 15 against Greensboro. After hitting .130 in the month of May, Lino batted .231 over 18 games in June for the Shorebirds.

Kyle Simon made eight appearances out of the bullpen in 2011 for the Shorebirds. He went 0-2 with a 4.15 ERA.

Jim Thome's 1,689 career runs batted in are 25th all-time and his career OPS of .959 is 18th in major league history. Thome is one of eight players in major league history to have 12 or more seasons with 30 or more home runs, joining Hank Aaron, Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds, Mike Schmidt, Manny Ramirez and Jimmie Foxx.

The Orioles have not announced a corresponding roster move for the Shorebirds.
