Hagerstown Suns News Release

Lakewood, NJ - The Hagerstown Suns (48-31) could not make the best of an early 6-0 lead as the Lakewood BlueClaws (28-49) came from behind to beat the Suns, 12-9, at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, NJ on Saturday night.

Right fielder Steven Souza and designated hitter Brett Newsome each drove in three runs for Hagerstown, Newsome using his sixth homerun of the season to knock in all three.

Suns starting pitcher Chris McKenzie did not factor in the decision, allowing five runs on eight hits over 4.1 innings pitched. Colin Bates (2-1) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on four hits over the final 1.1 innings of the game.

For the second straight game BlueClaws' third baseman Maikel Franco dealt a crushing blow in the eighth inning, this time a three-run double to complete a game-long rally for Lakewood. Philadelphia Phillies rehabbing first baseman, Ryan Howard, went 2-for-2 with an RBI double and three walks.

BlueClaws starter Yari Sosa lasted three innings in a no-decision, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits. Reliever Kenny Giles (1-2) earned the win pitching the final two innings of the game without allowing a run.

The Suns and BlueClaws will play game three of the five game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. when LHP Kylin Turnbull (3-4, 4.84) takes the mound for Hagerstown. Lakewood will send LHP Hoby Milner to the mound for his professional debut.
