April 3, 2018 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Boise, ID - The ECHL announced on Tuesday that Idaho Steelheads rookie goaltender Tomas Sholl has been named the Warrior Hockey Goaltender of the Month. Sholl becomes the sixth Steelheads goaltender to win the award.
Sholl, 23, earns the award after being named the ECHL's Goaltender of the Week for consecutive weeks from March 5th to 18th, followed by a runner-up effort the following week. Sholl became the first Steelheads goaltender to ever win the award in consecutive weeks and just the third Steelhead to ever win twice in one season.
The Hermosa Beach, California native went 8-0-1 in March with eight consecutive wins and four shutouts, his four shutouts coming in a span of six starts. Sholl played to a 0.87 goals-against average and a .965 save percentage. He held opponents to two goals or less in each of his nine appearances.
Sholl was acquired by the Steelheads on February 28th after spending the first month of his ECHL career with the [Tomas Sholl, 3/31; Creative Expressions Photography] Adirondack Thunder. Sholl remains unbeaten in regulation during his ECHL career with a record of 13-0-2 to go with a 1.37 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage in 17 appearances.
Sholl started the season in the Southern Professional Hockey League, appearing in 20 games between the Macon Mayhem and Evansville Thunderbolts and posting a record of 14-3-3 with a 2.52 goals-against average, a .917 save percentage, and a shutout.
Prior to turning pro, Sholl played three years of NCAA Division I hockey at Bowling Green State University. Sholl was 7-10-0 at Bowling Green with two shutouts, a 3.93 goals-against average, and an .891 save percentage. He was named to the WCHA All-Academic Team in 2016.
The Steelheads head out on a three-game road trip to wrap up the regular-season schedule, beginning Wednesday night at BOK Center against the Tulsa Oilers. Puck-drop is scheduled for 6:05pm MT, with the game available on 1350KTIK and on ECHLTV.
