Travs right-hander Matt Shoemaker has been named the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's Minor League Pitcher of the Month for July.
Shoemaker, 24, went 3-1 with a 1.24 ERA in six starts in July. In 43.2 innings, he gave up 31 hits and struck out 32 while walking 10. For the season, Shoemaker has a 10-2 record and a 2.38 ERA to lead the Texas League. He has 110 strikeouts and 26 walks (4.2/1 SO/BB ratio) in 128.1 innings.
From Trenton, Mich., Shoemaker signed with the Angels as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Michigan University in 2008. A TL North Division All Star, he has been named TL Player of the Week three times on the year and twice in July. He was named TL POTW for July 18-24, July 4-10, and June 13-19.
