Spokane Shock News Release
SPOKANE, WA (May 10th, 2012) - The Shock welcome a few familiar faces to Spokane this week with the arrival of Chris Pino and Levia Madarieta as a part of what would be one of the largest roster moves in a single week in the organization's history.
Chris Pino (San Diego State) spent time with the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Redskins before joining the San Jose SaberCats in 2008. In 2010, Chris joined the Spokane Shock roster early in the AFL season before heading north to the Canadian Football League with the Montreal Alouettes who went on to win the 2010 Grey Cup. Now that Chris is back on the Shock roster, it is anticipated that he will play a major role on the line offering pass blocking as well as receiving skills at the tight end position.
Levi Madarieta (BYU) was a part of the Shock's 2006 inaugural season and 2006 ArenaCup Championship. In 2007, Levi joined the af2 Boise Burn where he would spend the next few seasons competing against Spokane in the af2.
Mile Alston (Toledo), rejoins the Spokane Shock after playing with the team in 2011 before earning a CFL contract with the Calgary Stampeders at the end of last season. After spending time with the Cleveland Browns in 2007 and the af2 Mahoning Valley Thunder in 2009, Mike made his AFL debut with the Chicago Rush in 2010. Mike brings a versatile mac linebacker and defensive line presence to the squad as they make a run in the second half of the 2012 season.
Andrew Roxas (Washington State) is a rookie to the AFL and earned a spot with the Shock during a two-day workout with the team. Andrew was a starter for WSU in the Pac-10 and is a "true center type" that will create an instant impact on the offensive line this week with the team.
Kevin Ellison (USC) will make his AFL debut with the Shock this weekend after spending time in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks and San Diego Chargers. Kevin was a 6th Round selection in the 2009 NFL Draft and during his tenure in USC he received All-Freshman First Team honors from the Sporting News in his first season. As a sophomore, Kevin was named All-American Second Team and was an All-Pac 10 honorable mention.
Charles Ealy (UNLV) was a middle defensive back in the af2 after attending Compton Junior College and the University of Las Vegas-Nevada where he converted from wide receiver to defensive back. Charles will add speed to the defensive backfield with the ability to play multiple positions in the secondary.
Chris Tucker (South Carolina) played in the af2 and was in camp with the Shock to start the 2012 season but was let go strictly due to numbers coming out of camp to start the year. Tucker is expected to fill the void at the nose guard position with Jonathan Williams going to the Injured Reserve list.
The Shock welcomes a strong group of young talent to squad this week along with a nucleus of veteran leadership and experience as they prepare for the New Orleans Voodoo in their AFL Week 10 match-up on Friday, May 11th, 2012 with an 8pm PST Kickoff at the Spokane Arena.
This week the Shock also team up with Cancer Care Northwest for a special "Fight against Cancer" game night theme. CCNW will be present, boosting fundraising efforts before and during the contest at Spokane Arena.
