SALT LAKE CITY - Fans of the Arena Football League have voted Utah Blaze QB Tommy Grady the National Guard MVP of Week 9 after a record-setting performance against the Spokane Shock. The award marks Grady's second weekly honor, as he was also named the Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week.
Last Friday, Grady (6-7, 240, Utah) accomplished a feat that has only been reached by two others players in Arena Football League history. The Blaze signal caller threw 11 touchdown passes against the Shock, matching an AFL record held by Clint Dolezel and Aaron Garcia. Under Grady's guidance, Utah's offense set a franchise record for scoring in an 84-63 victory over Spokane.
No quarterback has been able to match Grady's production this season. He's currently the AFL leader in touchdown passes (62) and total offensive touchdowns (67). In eight games, Grady has thrown for 2,456 yards and 62 touchdowns while completing over 66 percent of his attempts. He's also added 55 yards and five more scores on the ground.
Grady beat out San Jose SaberCats QB Mark Grieb and Chicago Rush QB Russ Michna to win the National Guard MVP of the Week award. Coincidentally, Grady will face off with Grieb tomorrow night when the Blaze takes on the SaberCats in a matchup that will decide the leader in the West Division of the AFL's National Conference. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 PM MT.
The Utah Blaze (6-2) versus the San Jose SaberCats (6-2) can be seen live in the Salt Lake City area on KMYU (Dish/DirecTV Channel 12, Comcast Channel 22), with coverage beginning at 9:00 PM MT. It can also be streamed live online through Usteam by visiting www.utblaze.com/LIVE.
