Shinnimin, Teammates, and Matching Donors Raise $4,685 for Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center as Part of Purple Night Presented by Central Maine Medical Center
Portland, Maine - Portland Pirates forward Brandon Shinnimin, along with matching donations from Pirates Ownership, Shamrock Sports and Entertainment, and On Target Utility Services, and an additional donation by his Pirates teammates, has raised $4,685 to be donated to Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center as part of the Portland Pirates' 2nd Annual Purple Night presented by Central Maine Medical Center.
Shinnimin, a second year forward from Winnipeg, Manitoba, pledged $10 for every shot by the Pirates and $25 for every Pirates goal scored in the Pirates 6-5 loss to the Providence Bruins. The Pirates had 31 shots on goal during the contest, for a total donation of $435 from Shinnimin. Pirates Ownership, Shamrock Sports and Entertainment, and On Target Utility Services matched Shinnimin's donation amount.
In addition to Shinnimin's donation, Pirates players Darian Dziurzynski, Brandon Yip, Andy Miele, Randy Jones, Jordan Martinook, Tim Kennedy, James Melindy, Lucas Lessio, Sam Klassen, Tobias Rieder, Jordan Szwarz, Phil Lane, Cade Fairchild, Mathieu Brodeur, Sebastian Stalberg, Brett Hextall, Daine Todd, Justin Weller, and Mike Lee each pledged $5 for every Pirates' shot on goal during the game. Each player donated a total of $155, with a grand total of $2,945 donated by the 19 participating players.
"Without Brendan's initiative, this donation would not have been possible. This is a wonderful gesture on his part and we thank him for taking the initiative to organize this donation. It speaks to the character of this Pirates team that they decided to organize their own donation in addition to Brendan's contribution," said Pirates COO Brad Church. "Majority owner Ron Cain's match of the donation is the first step in the organizations commitment to give back and reconnect with the Pirates hockey community, and it is great to have On Target Utility Services and Shamrock Sports and Entertainment show their commitment to this cause as well."
Sponsors and local businesses interested in matching Shinnimin's donation or making a separate donation to the Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center can contact Tim Renyi at Shamrock Sports and Entertainment at tr@shamrockse.com for more information.
