Springfield Cardinals News Release
Tulsa, OK - RHP Anthony Shew outduelled rehabbing Dodgers LHP Clayton Kershaw, but the Tulsa Drillers (3-3) plated a pair of late runs in the bottom of the ninth for the 3-2 walk-off win against the Springfield Cardinals (0-6) on Tuesday evening.
DECISIONS:
W: RHP Marshall Kasowski (1-0)
L: RHP Merandy Gonzalez (0-1)
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:
-Trailing, 2-1, to start the bottom of the ninth, the Drillers loaded the bases with no outs on three straight singles to start the frame. 2B Omar Estevez tied it with an RBI groundout to first base, before the Cardinals intentionally walked C Keibert Ruiz. RHP Seth Elledge came in to face CF D.J. Peters, but Peters chopped an RBI single through the right side, scoring the winning run for the 3-2 walk-off victory.
-Tulsa struck first with an RBI infield single from Estevez in the bottom of the fifth, the only run allowed by RHP Anthony Shew.
-The Cardinals swung in front with a pair of solo shots against LHP Clayton Kershaw in the top of the sixth. SS Kramer Robertson hit the first long-ball, the first of his Double-A career, followed later in the inning by the go-ahead drive from CF Dylan Carlson for the 2-1 lead.
NOTABLES:
-CF Dylan Carlson extended his four-game hitting and RBI streak with his team-best second homer early this season, driving in his team-leading seventh RBI.
-RHP Anthony Shew tossed 6.0 innings with just the one run allowed on five hits and two walks, striking out six and going toe to toe with Kershaw.
-Tulsa RHP Marshall Kasowski retired all five Cardinals he faced in the 8th and 9th innings, striking out four of the five and keeping the Drillers within one run heading into the bottom of the ninth.
