Shawn Collymore Returns To Reading

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has re-signed forward Shawn Collymore ["COLL ih moor"]. Collymore (6'00/190 lbs), a 24 year-old from LaSalle, Quebec, who will be entering his fourth pro season, was Reading's third leading scorer last year, as he bagged sixteen goals and a career high thirty-two assists (forty-eight points) in fifty-five ECHL games.

Collymore, who earned three separate call-ups to the Binghamton Senators of the AHL last season, had fourteen multi-point games for the Royals last year-second only to the team's leading scorer, Greg Hogeboom, in that category. Collymore had three separate multi-goal games for Reading last year, including a hattrick against the Toledo Storm on November 17, 2006, when he bagged three goals (including the game winner) in a span of 6:14 in the second period. Collymore, a fifth round pick of the New York Rangers in 2001, had four game winners last year, including the game deciding goal in the Royals' dramatic 4-3 victory against the Johnstown Chiefs in the second to last game of the season to keep the team's playoff hopes alive. In that game, Collymore factored in all four goals for the Royals, scoring twice and assisting on the other two. Collymore, who has 117 total points (47g - 70a) in 174 regular season pro games, registered the second best plus/minus total for the Royals last year, playing to a +13.

Collymore made his pro debut in 2004-05 with the ECHL's Toledo Storm where he scored seven goals and assisted on nineteen others in 49 games, while earning a selection as the team's most improved player. In 2005-06, Collymore jumped to the United Hockey League's Danbury Trashers, where he scored twenty-three goals and added twenty-six assists in 61 regular season games. That year, Collymore, who was considered a rookie under UHL rules, went on a late season tear for the Trashers, exploding for eleven goals and twelve assists (23 points) over the course of fourteen games from February 14 through March 19, 2006, earning him the league's Rookie of the Month for March, 2006. However, Collymore, who led all UHL rookies by playing to a +44 that season, may have saved his best for last, as he racked up twenty-two points (8g - 14a) in 18 playoff games, leading the Trashers all the way to the league finals before being knocked off by the Kalamazoo Wings.

Collymore began his major junior career in 1999 when, as an under-age sixteen year old, he made the Quebec Remparts, an extremely deep team which proved to have no fewer than five first round NHL draft picks. In his second season with the Remparts, Collymore was selected as an alternate captain and racked up a team leading 43 assists and 67 points in 71 games. In his third year in the QMJHL, 2001-02, Collymore served as the team's captain and was second on the club with 57 points in just 52 games. Collymore split 2002-03 with Quebec and the Val-d'Or Foreurs and racked up a career high total of 33 goals in 69 regular season games.
