Jon Herrera took a bases loaded walk in the ninth inning to lift Colorado Springs past Tucson 5-4 Tuesday night.

Jayson Nix led off the inning with a base hit to right field and stole second base moments later. Christian Colonel followed with a walk before Humberto Cota's sacrifice bunt pushed both runners up a bag. Tucson then opted to intentionally walk Adam Melhuse, who was pinch hitting for the pitcher. Herrera's walk on the next at-bat sent the 2,759 fans at Security Service Field home happy.

Eddy Valdez (1-0) picked up his first win as a Sky Sox, striking out four batters during his two perfect innings.

Greg Reynolds started the game for the Sky Sox and pitched well enough to earn a victory. The former first round draft pick tossed five innings and allowed just two runs.

Esmerling Vasquez (3-6) pitched 2.1 innings in relief of starting pitcher, Juan Gutierrez and allowed three hits and three walks. The three walks all came in the ninth inning and led to his only earned run allowed on the evening.

The Sky Sox close out their 2008 home schedule Thursday with another 6:05 MDT game against Tucson. Oscar Villarreal (0-0, 2.00) will square off against Matt Torra (4-5, 4.66).
