Sharks Start December off Delightful with 4-3 Shootout Win

Bridgeport, CT - The Worcester Sharks (10-8-1-1, 22pts) received two more goals from the red hot Tim Kennedy and Harri Sateri made 35 saves and was perfect in the shootout in a 4-3 shootout victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (10-8-0-1, 22pts) in front of 3,578 fans at the Webster Bank Arena on Saturday night. The Sharks close out their 3-in-3 road weekend with a 3:05 start in Providence on Sunday.

Tim Kennedy extended his point streak to five games with his team leading 9th and 10th goals of the season and rookie Freddie Hamilton also found the back of the net. Harri Sateri made 35 saves for his 2nd win of the season in a feisty affair that saw 78 total penalty minutes.

A wild first period saw the Sharks fire 14 shots, score two goals, and record 30 minutes of penalties as Worcester grabbed a 2-1 first period lead. Jon Landry (4th) gave the Sound Tigers a 1-0 lead with a blast from the point of the power play past Harri Sateri at 8:12 for the game's first score. Freddie Hamilton (3rd) scored on a rebound try past netminder Kevin Poulin at 11:02 assisted by Mike Brennan and Curt Gogol. While the Sharks were celebrating the Hamilton score, a wild brawl broke out in front of the Worcester bench that resulted in 36 minutes of penalty minutes including major penalties to Mike Brennan (1st FM) and Blair Riley (6th FM). Curt Gogol (4th FM) and Nathan McIver (4th FM) had a long fight at 14:24 in the Worcester zone to continue the theme of physical play. Tim Kennedy (9th) extended his point streak to five games (5-5-10) with a terrific tough angle shot from the left corner past Poulin at 17:33 to give the Sharks a 2-1 advantage through 20 minutes.

Harri Sateri was sharp in the middle frame making 14 saves to keep the Sharks ahead 2-1 through 40 minutes of play. Just three minor penalties were called in the period as the physical play simmered down headed into the third period.

Nino Niederreiter (10th) tied the score at 2-2 with a snipe from the left circle at 2:51 of the third period. But the Sharks would grab the lead again at 13:52 as Tim Kennedy (10th) scored a terrific goal with a wicked shot from the left circle off the post and past Poulin assisted by Bracken Kearns and Matt Irwin. Bridgeport would tie the score at 3-3 as Brock Nelson (8th) found a loose puck in front of the Worcester net with 2:28 left remaining in the third period to force overtime.

The Sharks would kill a power play in overtime as the Sound Tigers fired the only three shots in the extra session as the game headed to the shootout.

In the shootout, James Sheppard and Tim Kennedy scored for Worcester and Harri Sateri stopped all four Bridgeport shooters for the 4-3 Sharks victory.

The Sharks overall record falls to 10-8-1-1 (22pts in 20gp) and 5-4-0-1 (13 pts in 10gp) on the road this season.
