Cleveland Monsters News Release
Patrick Bordeleau scored the eventual game-winner in the third period for the Lake Erie Monsters (11-8-1-1), who topped the San Antonio Rampage (6-11-0-3) by a 4-2 score Saturday afternoon at Quicken Loans Arena. The win was a bounce-back victory for the Monsters, who fell to the Rampage 6-2 on Friday night at The Q. Four different Monsters scored in Saturday's win.
Bryan Lerg opened the scoring for the Monsters when he rolled a backhand shot from the right wing circle under Rampage goalie Dov Grumet-Morris for his team-leading ninth goal of the year at 1:53 of the first period. Mike Sgarbossa and Luke Walker assisted on the tally.
With the Monsters on the power play, they were able to extend their lead to 2-0 when Mark Olver banged in a rebound from the front of the San Antonio net, with Geoff Walker and Thomas Pock getting the assists at 9:51 of the first period.
Again with the Monsters on the man advantage at 8:06 of the second period, James Wright was awarded a penalty shot, and was denied by Monsters rookie goalie Sami Aittokallio. Wright's wrist shot was steered away by a blocker save from Aittokallio.
Greg Rallo scored to put San Antonio on the board on a shot from the slot at 16:25 of the second period, cutting the Monsters lead to 2-1 heading into the second intermission.
San Antonio tied the game on a Colby Robak shot from the top of the right circle at 2:26 of the third period, making the score 2-2.
Bordeleau hammered in a rebound from a Stefan Elliott attempt from the high slot at 8:41 of the third period- his second of the season- for the eventual game-winning goal. Cameron Gaunce also assisted on the goal.
Mike Connolly tipped a Karl Stollery point shot at 12:19 of the third period to beat Grumet-Morris and extend the Monsters lead to 4-2. Tyson Barrie also assisted on the goal, which was Connolly's first of the season.
After giving up four first-period goals to the Rampage on Friday night, Aittokallio turned around and started again on Saturday, stopping 26 of 28 shots and is 6-5-0 with the win in net. Dov Grumet-Morris is 2-5-2 after stopping 24 of 28 shots in the loss.
The Monsters will finish their second straight three-in-three weekend in Toronto on Sunday at 3:00 PM, with all the action being carried live on NewsTalk 1420 WHK.
