Wilson Tobs News Release

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Wilmington Sharks snapped the three game winning streak of the Wilson Tobs with a 3-1 victory on Saturday night at Buck Hardee Field.

Wilmington (26-17, 10-6) took the lead for good in the third inning as Casey Goss lead off with a single ahead of Aaron Preston who doubled to the gap in right center against Tyler Bolton (L, 1-6) which gave the Sharks a lead they would not relinquish.

The Sharks added an insurance run in the fifth inning on a two out infield single off the bat of Scott Coleman for the final run.

Wilson (17-29, 8-10) evened the game at one in the second inning as Geoff Jimenez singled to right off Blaze Tart (W, 2-1) and later scored on a Joe Costigan fielder's choice to knot the game before the Sharks rallied for the victory.

The Tobs brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning against Andrew Brockett (S, 9), but a double play ended the threat and propelled Wilmington to the 3-1 victory.

Wilson will have the next two days off for the 2012 Coastal Plain League All Star Game which will be held on Monday night at Historic Fleming Stadium. The Tobs will return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to Columbia to battle the Blowfish at 7:05.

The Wilson Tobs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both the players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 53 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and CY Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
