Blowfish Fall in Final Game Before All-Star Break

COLUMBIA, S.C.- The Columbia Blowfish fell to the Gastonia Grizzlies 6-4 Saturday night at Historic Capital City Stadium. The loss cuts the Blowfish lead to 1 game in the second half west division race.

The Grizzlies got things started at the plate in the fourth getting their first run off of starter Derek Beasley. Beasley went six innings giving up two runs on three hits while striking out four. Beasley did not factor in the decision.

The Blowfish answered in the fifth with three runs of their own to take a 3-1 lead. The three run inning knocked the Grizzlies starting pitcher Tyler Powell out of the game. Powell went four and two third innings giving up three runs on six hits while striking out two.

The Grizzlies would cut the lead to one in the sixth with a single run before the Blowfish reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the inning on a bases loaded walk by Graham Saiko.

The Grizzlies then took the lead for good with a three run eighth inning off of relievers Connor Sullivan and Joshua Knab. Sullivan went one and a third innings giving up three runs on three hits to take the loss for the Blowfish. Knab went an inning and two thirds giving up a run on four hits.

Dale Innes went three innings giving up no runs and no hits while striking out five to get the win for the Grizzlies.

The Blowfish are now off for the All-Star break until Tuesday when they host the Wilson Tobs. First pitch is set for 7:05 and tickets are available at blowfishbaseball.com.
