Wilmington Sharks News Release
Edenton, N.C. - As the Wilmington Sharks (10-6, 26-17) chase a championship, they have already made history. Saturday night's 3-1 win over the Wilson Tobs (8-10, 17-29) was the club's 18th home victory of the season, marking the team's most since records are available (beginning in 2001).
Connor Mitchell scored the first run of the game, unearned, after reaching on a walk in the second inning. An insurance run followed the Tobs tying the game in the top of the third, and through the first three innings the Sharks had done enough for the win.
Just in case, Casey Goss led off the fifth with a walk and later scored his second run of the game for added insurance. With Blaze Tart going a strong six innings, over which he allowed only the one run on five hits and four walks plus three strikeouts, the All-Star bullpen combination of Wes Hatley and Andrew Brockett closed the game with no problems. Hatley tossed two perfect innings in relief, while Brockett picked up his tenth save by facing only three batters.
Saturday's game was the last before the All-Star break, after which the Sharks travel to Peninsula and Petersburg. The next time Legion Stadium will open its gates for Sharks baseball is Thursday, a doubleheader against the Fayetteville SwampDogs.
