Morehead City Marlins News Release
MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins (15-29 overall, 5-12 second half) erupted for six runs in the seventh inning and two more runs in the eighth inning en route to a 10-1 victory over the Petersburg Generals (20-26 overall, 6-12 second half) Saturday evening at Big Rock Stadium.
Taylor Robinson (4-3) earned the win with seven innings of work, and allowed just one unearned run on four hits while Sal Annunziata was 4-for-5 with four RBIs, two runs scored and a home run in the Marlins season-high 18-hit attack.
The Marlins jumped on the board first when Corey Bass launched a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning. The next batter Geoff DeGroot followed with a triple before scoring on a single from Jarrett Higgins for a 2-0 lead.
Petersburg trimmed the lead in half in the top of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly before the Marlins countered with six runs in the bottom of the frame. The first three hitters reached by way of a single before Robbie Rea knocked an RBI single. Annunziata followed with a two-run single of his own before Reed Gordy walked with the bases loaded to give the Fish a 7-1 lead. Later in the inning, Ryan Cranmer singled through the left side, scoring Sam Ott and giving Morehead City an 8-1 advantage.
Then in the bottom of the eighth after Rea singled, Annunziata blasted his seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot, to left-center field to close the scoring at 10-2.
Anthony Pisano (0-5) suffered the loss, going 4 2/3 innings and allowing two runs on five hits.
The Marlins do not return to action until after the All-Star break on July 24 when they take on the Fayetteville SwampDogs in a doubleheader at J.P. Riddle Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. with the live broadcast on CPL WebPass beginning approximately 10 minutes prior to first pitch.
