
Sharks Can't Pass Test in Manchester

Manchester, NH. - The Worcester Sharks (8-6-1-0, 17pts) kicked off a four game road trip with a 5-1 loss to the Manchester Monarchs (11-4-0-0, 22pts) in front of 8,296 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena on a Wednesday morning during a School Day Game.
Evan Trupp scored the only Worcester goal while JP Anderson kept the Sharks in the game early and made 40 saves as the Sharks dropped their season high third straight game. Brian O'Neill led the way for Manchester with three points (2-1-3) and JF Berube made 22 saves in net for the Monarchs as Manchester won their 6th straight game. The Sharks four game road trip continues with a 7:05pm start in Lehigh Valley on Friday vs. the Phantoms.
Manchester came out flying in the first period outshooting Worcester 18-6 through the first 20 minutes to grab a 1-0 lead. Zach O'Brien (1st) tapped home an easy score after a great pass by Nick Shore at 10:47 for the only strike of the period. JP Anderson was superb with several great saves in the opening period.
The Monarchs went ahead 2-0 with a shorthanded goal by Brian O'Neill (5th) after his centering feed went off a skate and past Anderson at 7:58. The Sharks got on the board at 9:31 after a nice cycle down low in the Monarchs' zone. Chris Tierney's original shot was stopped by Berube but Evan Trupp (3rd) fired home the rebound from on top of the crease to cut the lead to 2-1. Manchester got their two goal lead right back just 44 seconds later as Brian O'Neill (6th) scored his second of the morning with a tough angle shot that broke off a stick in front and past Anderson at 10:15. Manchester outshot Worcester 12-10 in the second period.
Manchester would score twice more in the third period with a pair of tap in goals from Collin Miller (5th) at 5:59 and Kevin Gravel (1st) at 19:45 to pull away for a 5-1 victory. Taylor Doherty (2nd FM) dropped the mitts with Scott Sabourin (3rd FM) at 8:53 for the only scrap of the game while Manchester outshot Worcester 10-7 in the third period.
The Sharks overall record falls to 8-6-1-0, 17pts, and 3-2-0-0, 6pts on the road this season.

Worcester went 0-for-3 on the power play while Manchester went 0-for-5...Petter Emanuelsson (inj), Gus Young, and Jimmy Bonneau did not dress for Worcester...Aaron Dell served as the backup goaltender for Worcester as Troy Grosenick is currently on recall for the San Jose Sharks....the Monarchs are now 15-1-3 against the Sharks since Jan 1, 2013.....goaltender JF Berube is now 6-1-2 all-time against Worcester.... official puck drop was 10:05am EST... Worcester allowed their third shorthanded goal of the season... the Sharks have allowed the first goal of the game in seven of their past nine games....Worcester has scored just three goals during their three game skid.
