Shae Simmons to Mississippi, Russell to Gwinnett

PEARL, MS - RHP Andrew Russell was promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett from Double-A Mississippi, and RHP Shae Simmons was promoted to Double-A Mississippi from Low-A Rome. Simmons is leading the South Atlantic League in saves and has not given up an earned run since mid-May.

Russell, 29, was 4-1 with two saves and a 2.27 ERA in 28 games after joining the M-Braves on May 13. Russell had not allowed a run in his past eight outings, 13.2 innings (7/8-8/2). He began the season at Triple-A Gwinnett where he went 2-4 with two saves and a 4.58 ERA in 16 outings. The Australian led the Braves organization with a combined 54 relief appearances last season. He was signed by the Braves as a minor league free agent on February 14, 2011.

Simmons, 22, was 1-1 with a 1.49 ERA in 39 appearances out of the Rome bullpen. The South Atlantic League saves leader has converted 24 of 25 save opportunities this season. His 39 appearances rank fourth in the league and his 34 games finished rank second. Simmons has not allowed an earned run since May 17. Simmons was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 22nd round of the 2012 draft out of Southeast Missouri State University.

The Mississippi roster has 25 active players and 5 disabled.
