Wahoos Pick up Series Win over Barons

Birmingham, AL - The Pensacola Blue Wahoos picked up just the third series win by a visiting team at Regions Field with a 6-2 win over the Barons Monday night in front of 4,560 fans.

Pensacola would jump out to an early 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third innings, highlighted by an inside-the-park home run by Ryan LaMarre.

The Barons would come back to tie the game at 2-2 with two solo home runs over the next two innings starting with a solo blast by Cody Puckett onto the home run porch in left, his second home run of the series and 11 th on the season. Trayce Thompson would follow an inning later with a solo blast of his own into the Pensacola bullpen, giving him 11 long balls on the season as well.

The Wahoos would retake the lead in for good in thefifth, loading the bases and scoring on an RBI groundout by Devin Lohman. Barons' starter Chris Bassitt(2-2, 3.00)allowed just four hits over 7.0 IP while allowing three runs (two earned) and striking out fivebut was saddled with his second loss of the season.

Pensacola would put the game away with three runs in the top of the eighth on back-to-back RBI doubles by Travis Mattair and Tucker Barnhart to take a 6-2 lead they would not relinquish. With the loss, the Barons fell to 68-46 and 24-20 in the second half while Pensacola improved to 47-65 and 22-21 in the second half. Wahoos starter Josh Smith (9-8, 3.77) picked up the win, allowing two runs on five hits over 6.2 innings while striking out seven.

The Barons will look to salvage the series finale tomorrow night as Southern League wins leader Scott Snodgress (11-7, 3.70) takes the hill against RHP Carlos Contreras (0-1, 4.66). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
