Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

Brooklyn, NY - It was a good, old-fashioned pitchers' duel at Maimonides Park on Friday night with the Cyclones coming out on the losing end, falling to Greensboro by the score of 2-1. RHP Carson Seymour did not factor in the decision but was dominant over his 6.2 innings of shutout baseball, scattering two hits with one walk while striking out 11.

Seymour became just the 21st player in Cyclones history to strike out 11 or more batters and the first since Thomas Szapucki struck out 11 batters at Tri-City in 2016.

But matching Seymour on the mound was Greensboro starter Jared Jones who struck out eight batters over his 6.0 innings on the mound, allowing just two hits. One of the hits was an RBI double from Jaylen Palmer in the bottom of the fifth that gave the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.

That's how the score would stay until the top of the eighth when Greensboro turned a one-run deficit into a one-run lead with one swing of the bat. With a runner on first and one out, Francisco Acuña connected on a 2-0 offering from LHP Andrew Edwards (0-1) and sent it over the left field wall for a two-run home run.

That was it. The one swing of the bat from Acuña changed the game and Greensboro came away with a 2-1 victory on Friday night.

Brooklyn will look to return to their winning ways on Saturday night at Maimonides Park when they send RHP Dominic Hamel to the mound. Game time is 6:00 PM with gates opening at 5:00 PM. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Donovan Mitchell, Jr Bobblehead as part of our "What Could Have Been Night."
