YANKEES-RED SOX, THE HIGH-A VERSION: The Hudson Valley Renegades host the Greenville Drive, the High-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, in a six-game series at Dutchess Stadium this week. The Renegades opened their season in South Carolina and took two of three against the Drive.

ABOUT LAST NIGHT...: The Renegades fell to the Greenville Drive on Thursday night 8-1. Beck Way allowed two two-run home runs in the game, but struck out seven in 6.0 innings of work. Aaron Palensky and Cooper Bowman both had two-hit games, while Eduardo Torrealba picked up an RBI single for the lone run.

REHAB ALERT: New York Yankees catcher Ben Rortvedt commences an MLB rehab assignment tonight for the Renegades. Rortvedt is the second MLB rehabber with the Renegades in the Yankees era (Luis Severino in '21) and the fourth-ever in team history. He becomes the first home rehabber for HV since Doug Waechter pitched four games at The Dutch in 2007. In two games of his rehab assignment so far, Rortvedt is 1-for-6 with two walks and two runs scored.

SWEENEY ON A TEAR: Since May 25 when his slash line bottomed out at .176/.261/.333, Trey Sweeney has been on a tear, hitting .286/.379/.487 across 39 games to raise his line to .242/.332/.426. One of the biggest keys for Sweeney during the stretch has been how dramatically his K% has dropped, from 31.3% before June 3, to 21.9% since May 25, while his walk rate has spiked from 8.7% to 11.2%.

I'M A MAN, I'M (ON THE) 40!: Yankees 40-man roster member Yoendrys Gómez gets the start tonight against Greenville. He was added to the 40-man in 2020, and is the second Yankees 40-man roster to pitch a game with the Renegades in the last two years, joining MLB rehabber Luis Severino.

PINSTRIPED PITCHING PROWESS: Strength in pitching is a theme across the New York Yankees minor league system and the Renegades are no exception. The staff sports a 3.55 ERA on the season, the second-best in the South Atlantic League (Wilmington, 3.45). It also ranks as the fifth-best staff ERA in High-A, and the 10th-best in the minor leagues. All four Yankees affiliated teams rank in the top 25 in the minors in ERA -- Somerset 3.37, 4th; Tampa 3.67, 13th; Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 3.86, 21st.

I'M NEW IN TOWN: With Everson Pereira moving up to Double-A Somerset on Wednesday, the Yankees promoted OF Grant Richardson from Single-A Tampa. Richardson was a 17th round pick of the Yankees in 2021 out of Indiana University.

LET'S TALK ABOUT THE STEALS: The Renegades stole 11 bases in last Wednesday's game at Jersey Shore, the most of any team in the minor leagues this season. It was the most in a game since the Hillsboro Hops (ARZ, A+) stole 11 against the Everett AquaSox (SEA) on May 7, 2021. Before that, the last full-season MiLB team to steal 11 was the Burlington Bees against the Fort Wayne TinCaps in an 18-inning game on April 16, 2014. Those are the only three instances of 11 steals in a single game in full-season leagues since 2005. Both Hudson Valley and Everett accomplished their prolific steal totals without being caught.

LET'S TALK MORE ABOUT THE STEALS: With Carlos Narvaez's steal of third base in the seventh inning last Wednesday, the Renegades stole their collective 150th base of the season to set a new franchise record. It took only 77 games to break the record that was set by the 2021 Renegades in 120 games. The Gades enter play Friday with 170 stolen bases on the year, third-most in the minors behind Down East (A, TEX -- 197) and Lake Elsinore (A, SD -- 184).

HAVE I MENTIONED THE STEALS?: Not only did the Renegades set a new club record with 11 steals on Wednesday, but they also stole more bases in a single game than any South Atlantic League team has since 2005. Since that point, only three other times has a SAL team stolen 10 bases, with the most recent instance coming on July 1, 2013 when the Rome Braves stole 10 at the Charleston RiverDogs.

NOT ABOUT STEALS...JK, IT IS: Cooper Bowman stole his 33rd base of the season on Monday, tying him with Jake Fraley for the most steals in a single season (2016) and career for Hudson Valley. Bowman is one of just three players in franchise history to swipe 30 bags in a season, joining Fraley and Michael Ross (2007). James Nelson is right behind Bowman for the all-time steals record with 32.

PEREIRA NEW HOME RUN KING: Everson Pereira's two-run home run in the fifth inning on Tuesday was historic, putting him in sole possession of the Renegades home run record, with 23. He surpassed Dan Grummitt's record of 22, which had stood since 1999. The Yankees No. 3 prospect (Baseball America) also sits at 75 career RBIs with the Renegades, placing him second behind Jacson McGowan, who had 82 from 2018-19. After the game, Pereira was promoted to Double-A Somerset.

THE RIVALRY IN HIGH-A: The current series with the Greenville Drive represents the High-A edition of baseball's greatest rivalry, Yankees-Red Sox. However, before 2022, it had been 18 years since the club's respective High-A affiliates played each other. From 1994-2004 the Tampa Yankees and Sarasota Red Sox both competed in the old Florida State League. The Sox moved their High-A affiliate to the Wilmington Blue Rocks for 2005 and 2006, the Lancaster JetHawks from 07-08 before settling in with the Salem Red Sox from 2009 until the Great Reorganization of 2020. The Yankees had their High-A affiliate with the Tampa Yankees/Tarpons from 1994 through 2020.
