Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, allowed a big seventh inning for the second consecutive game, leading to a 6-2 loss to the Corpus Christi Hooks in the series finale Saturday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
After a seven-run seventh inning Friday, the Hooks (45-23) took control of the game in the seventh again Saturday, loading the bases with no outs against Jake Shortslef (0-1) to begin the inning. Joe Filomeno entered the game and issued back-to-back walks to Derek Fisher and J.D. Davis to give the Hooks the lead. Alex Bregman scored on a wild pitch, and Nick Tanielu hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-2 Hooks.
Riders (37-30) starting pitcher Connor Sadzeck struck out nine batters in the game, matching his career-high previously set on May 6 at San Antonio. Sadzeck lasted 5 2/3 innings and allowed a pair of Corpus Christi runs, including a Conrad Gregor home run, in a no-decision.
The RoughRiders never led in the game, although they did rally to tie the game with two runs against starting pitcher David Paulino (4-2) in the bottom of the sixth. The rally came after the Hooks took a 2-0 lead runs in the fourth and fifth. Ryan Cordell drove in Preston Beck with a sacrifice fly to cut the Corpus Christi lead in half. The next batter, Ronald Guzman, tied the game with an RBI single to left-center field.
The RoughRiders begin a four-game road series Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against Midland. Rangers pitcher A.J. Griffin (0-1, 5.06 ERA) is scheduled to make his third rehabilitation start for Frisco against righty Joel Seddon (1-6, 7.76 ERA). Fans can listen to the action on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 1:25 p.m.
The Riders return home for a four-game series against Corpus Christi beginning Thursday, June 23 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for the upcoming homestand and all other games this season are available now online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at info@ridersbaseball.com, over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
