Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, Ark. - The Northwest Arkansas Naturals (29-39) were shutout for a second consecutive game by the Springfield Cardinals (39-29) as they took the series finale by the score of 1-0 at Arvest Ballpark on Saturday night.
The Naturals received yet another solid pitching effort as LHP Eric Skoglund (L, 3-5) threw 6.0 innings of one-run baseball. The lanky lefty gave up six hits, walked one, and struck out five in the game. The only blemish for Skoglund came in the second when he gave up a RBI single to Mason Katz with the bases loaded; however, the Sarasota-native retired the next two batters to limit the damage. Northwest Arkansas turned to their bullpen in the seventh and RHP Evan Beal kept the team within striking distance as he registered 3.0 scoreless frames while striking out four hitters.
After scoring 12 runs in Game 1 of the series, the Northwest Arkansas offense wasn't able to get the bats going during the last three games. The Naturals got doubles from Cam Gallagher and Ryan O'Hearn but those were the only two hits the team could muster against Springfield starter Trey Nielsen (W, 6-6) whom recorded the victory with 6.0 scoreless innings to go along with eight strikeouts. The combination of Pedro Echemendia, John Brebbia, and Josh Lucas (S, 9) came on in relief and kept the shutout in place while keeping Springfield alone in first place in the Texas League North.
Tonight's game concluded the Naturals series against the Double-A St. Louis Cardinals. Tomorrow afternoon Northwest Arkansas will welcome their in-state rivals, the Arkansas Travelers (Double-A Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim), to town on Father's Day - Sunday, June 19 - for a 2:05 p.m. first pitch. Gates will open at 1:00 p.m. for a Father's Day Cap Giveaway by OC Sports on Kids Eat FREE Family Sunday featuring Mercy Kids Post-Game Catch on the Field. North Little Rock will send RHP Tyler Carpenter (2-3, 4.26 ERA) to the mound and he'll be opposed by RHP Ashton Goudeau (2-3, 2.86 ERA) of the Naturals. You can catch the live play-by-play action with the Voice of the Naturals Benjamin Kelly on your home for Naturals baseball on KQSM 92.1-FM The Ticket at 1:45 p.m. for the Indigo Sky Casino Pregame Show prior to first pitch.
