Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A two run seventh inning was all the offense the Barons could muster up in a close defeat at the hands of the Chattanooga Lookouts on Friday night. Chattanooga got the scoring started in the first inning for the second straight game when Nick Gordon led the game off with a double, and was later brought around on a Travis Harrison RBI single to center field.

The Lookouts would add to their lead in the third after a single by Edgar Corcino and a double by LaMonte Wade put two runners on base which set up back to back groundouts, the second of which scored Wade from third and made the score 2-0 in favor of the road team.

The Barons remained down by two until the bottom of the seventh inning. The scoring started on a Cameron Seitzer home run in to the home bullpen in right field, his fifth long ball of the season. Mason Robbins then singled and stole second base for his third swipe this year. Three consecutive walks from Alfredo Gonzalez, Cleuluis Rondon, and Eddy Alvarez scraped across the Barons second and final run of both the inning and the game.

Chattanooga put the go ahead and eventual game winning run on the scoreboard in the very next inning. Corcino led off the frame with a single to left and was moved to second base after Travis Harrison drew a base on balls. Dan Gamache hit a line drive double over the head of Barons left fielder Nick Basto to score Edgar Corcino, but the defense was able to limit the damage after a relay from Basto to Rondon to the catcher Gonzalez cut down Harrison at home plate trying to score on the play.

Scott Snodgress took his first loss on the year loss after he allowed the Gamache double, although he did amass three strikeouts in his one and a third innings of work. Jake Reed got the win for the Lookouts even though he walked three batters in just a third of an inning on the mound. John Curtiss earned his tenth save in the Chattanooga win, as the closer came in to throw the bottom of the ninth and struck out a single Barons batter to end the game.

The Barons will be back in action Saturday night against Chattanooga for the final game of the series, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT. Right-hander Jordan Stephens will make his first start of the season for the Barons and fellow righty Randy LeBlanc will get the ball for the Lookouts. Curt Bloom will bring you all the action starting with the Coca-Cola pregame show starting at 6:20 p.m. on WERC 105.5 FM and the iHeart Radio app.
