Birmingham Barons News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Barons left handed starter Jordan Guerrero earned his first victory on the mound tonight, as he lasted seven full innings and struck out four and did not allow a single walk as he spread out seven hits among his seven innings of work.
Birmingham's offense was able to back up their starter from the very start of the game, as Nick Basto knocked his ninth home run of the season in the bottom half of the first inning to put the Barons on the board. Alfredo Gonzalez, in his first game back off the disabled list, continued the power streak for his team as he blasted his second long ball of the campaign in the second inning to make the score 2-0.
Chattanooga was kept off the scoreboard until the seventh inning, when back to back doubles to lead off the inning by Ryan Strausborger and Dan Gamache respectively, plated the Lookouts first and only run of the game with no outs in the inning. Guerrero was able to retire the next three batters in order on a fielder's choice out at third base and a double play to limit the damage in the frame.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Barons were able to add onto their lead when Eddy Alvarez hit a double with one out and reached third base on a balk, which set up Nick Basto for his second RBI of the evening when the designated hitter roped a laser off the left field wall which resulted in a double, scoring Alvarez for an insurance run for the home team.
Aaron Bummer was strong in relief of Guerrero, throwing two innings of one hit ball and struck out two to earn his first save of the season. Matt Tracy took the loss for Chattanooga, as he threw seven innings and gave up two runs on five hits with four strikeouts to bring his record to 3-4 on the year.
The Barons will be back in action Friday night against Chattanooga for game four of the series, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT. Right-hander Spencer Adams will take the ball for the Barons and fellow righty Felix Jorge will get the ball for the Lookouts. Curt Bloom will bring you all the action starting with the Coca-Cola pregame show starting at 6:55 p.m. on WERC 105.5 FM and the iHeart Radio app.
