
Seven-run inning powers Canaries to 13-6 win

Lincoln, NE - The Sioux Falls Canaries (6-6) scored seven runs in the fifth inning on their way to a 13-6 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs (5-7) on Saturday night.
The Canaries started the scoring with a run in the third inning. Orlando Miller singled and went to third on a single by Juan Figueroa. Will Smith hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Miller and give the Canaries an early 1-0 lead.
The Birds got two more in the fourth inning. Abner Arroyo, who had doubled earlier in the game to extend his hitting streak to 20 games, started the inning with a single. Matt Imwalle later followed with his 11th home run of the season. Imwalle's two-run shot put the Canaries up by three runs, 3-0.
The Canaries exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning. Damon Lessler started the inning with a walk and scored on a double by Juan Figueroa to give the Birds a 4-0 lead. Will Smith followed with a single to bring around Figueroa for a 5-0 advantage. Ben Van Iderstine singled to sent Smith to second. Arroyo singled scoring Smith and putting the Canaries ahead by six, 6-0. Wil Quintana singled to score Van Iderstine for a 7-0 lead. With Quintana on first and Arroyo on second, Imwalle flew to deep center field allowing Arroyo to advance to third. After Quintana stole second base to put two in scoring position, Tim Marks singled to score Arroyo and put the Canaries up eight. Orlando Miller followed with a double to send Marks to third and score Quintana. Miller's first RBI of the night put the Canaries ahead 9-0. Lessler hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Marks and cap off a seven-run inning. After four and a half innings, the Canaries led 10-0.
Lincoln finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jay Yaconetti and Corey Harrington each hit two run homers. For Yaconetti it was his fourth homer of the season, for Harrington his fifth. After six innings, the Canaries led, 10-4.
The Birds added more in the seventh inning. Imwalle walked and Marks singled to set the stage for Miller's first homer as a Canary. Miller's three-run blast put the Birds ahead by nine runs, 13-4.
The Saltdogs got another homer in the seventh inning when Pichi Balet went deep for the fourth time of the season to cut the Canaries lead to eight, 13-5.
Lincoln added one final run in the ninth. Tony Garcia singled and went to second on a wild pitch before scoring on a single by Balet in the 13-6 final.
Ryan Ford (4-3) pitched six innings for the Canaries giving up five runs on eight hits to get the win. Jarrett Gardner (6-2) suffered his second loss of the year for Lincoln.
