Brockton Rox News Release
Pittsfield, Mass. - The Brockton Rox stroked three homers for the first time in a game this season as they notched their seventh straight victory, 7-4, over the Pittsfield Colonials at Wahconah Park on Monday evening.
The Colonials (7-16) scored the first two runs of the contest before the Brockton bats came alive. In the first inning with two outs, 1B Jerod Edmondson hit his fourth home run of the season off Rox starting RHP Freddy Flores, to make it 1-0 Pittsfield. Then in the fourth inning, the Colonials doubled their lead on a two-out RBI single by DH Chris Torres.
Brockton (14-9) got onto the scoreboard in the fifth on a two-out hit of their own. With two outs and nobody on, C Chris Grossman walked and SS Dominic Ramos doubled to set-up CF Chris Valencia's opportunity. Valencia followed up with a two-run double to tie the game at 2-2.
The Rox would then explode for four runs in the sixth. DH Keith Brachold led off with his league-leading seventh longball of the season, a towering shot to deep right field. After two outs were recorded, both 2B Scott Wearne and LF Mike Conroy singled, and then Grossman hit a line-drive homer to left field to give the Rox a 6-2 advantage.
Pittsfield scratched across single runs in the seventh on a double by RF Daniel Carte and in the eighth on a throwing error by RHP Josh Papelbon. Papelbon closed the door on the Colonials over the final two innings though to earn his sixth save of the season.
Flores (3-0) picked up the victory, allowing two runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings of work with five strikeouts and one walk. RHP Colin Lynch entered the game for Flores in the sixth with the bases loaded and two out and proceeded to throw just one pitch to strand all three runners. Pittsfield starting RHP Miguel A. Flores (1-3) was saddled with the loss after giving up six runs on ten hits in six innings.
Brockton, winners of seven consecutive contests, is now 7-6 on the road this season and stand four games behind Quebec for first place in the league. They will look for win number eight in a row on Tuesday night with RHP Wayne Lundgren (2-1) taking to the mound. First pitch in Pittsfield is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
