Colonials Outlasted by Brockton, 7-4

Pittsfield, MA - The Pittsfield Colonials fell 7-4 to the Brockton Rox at Wahconah Park on Monday night.

Colonials' starting pitcher Miguel Flores (1-3) suffered the loss, lasting six innings and giving-up six runs on ten hits, one walk, and three strike-outs.

Colonials' Catcher Scott Knazek (3-for-4, 2B) had a three hit game while right fielder Dan Carte (2-for-5, 2b, RBI) extended his hitting streak to 13 consecutive games with an RBI double in the game. Pittsfield right fielder Jerod Edmondson 1-for-4, HR) cranked his fourth home run of the season and drove in his team leading 20th RBI.

Brockton starters Freddy Flores earned the win going five and two-thirds innings to allow two runs on seven hits, one walk, and three strike-outs. Rox closer Joshua Papelbon (6) finished the game with a six out save for the visitors.

Rox catcher Chris Grossman's (1-for-3, HR, 3 RBI) sixth inning three-run homer proved to be the winning hit; his first of the season. Keith Brachold (1-for-5, HR, RBI) belted his league leading seventh home run of the year, while right fielder Melvin Falu (2-for-5, HR) added his third homer of the season in to aid the Brockton effort.

The Colonials will play game two of the three game set with the Rox on Tuesday night at Wahconah Park with a 7:05pm schedule first pitch.
