
September Call-Ups Continue for Volcanoes

KEIZER, Oregon - The San Francisco Giants transferred two additional players to Short Season-A Salem-Keizer on Wednesday. Infielders Brandon Van Horn and Nick Hill were selected in the 2016 MLB Draft and are being transferred from the AZL Giants.Brandon Van Horn, a 6-2, 175 pound shortstop, was drafted in the 19th round (575th overall) out of the Masters College in Santa Clarita, California.
For the AZL Giants, Van Horn batted .231 with 15 RBI and 24 walks. In 160 at bats, Van Horn reached safely 37 times with nine extra-base hits (seven doubles, two triples).
Van Horn makes a strong case defensively at shortstop. In 380 innings he has made just 11 errors while recording 132 assists, logging a .947 fielding percentage.
Nick Hill, a 6-4, 190 pound third baseman, was drafted in the 26th round (785th overall) out of Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida.
In his senior year at Eckerd, Hill stroked a .391 batting average with 61 hits in 156 at-bats. Hill had 19 extra-base hits (13 doubles, 6 home runs) while walking 10 times and striking out 34 times.
For the AZL Giants, Hill has batted .263 through 175 at bats with 16 RBI, eight doubles and three triples. The stat that stands out the most is 17 stolen bases in just 19 attempts.
The Volcanoes welcome the additions after outfielder Heath Quinn was transferred to San Jose and infielder Manuel Geraldo was transferred to Augusta. The Volcanoes return home to finish out the season with a three-game series against the Boise Hawks starting on September 3.
