BINGHAMTON, NY - Two nights after allowing a franchise-high eight goals, goaltending played a major role in Friday night's 4-1 victory against the Lowell Lock Monsters at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

After a scoreless first period, Denis Hamel kicked off the scoring for the Sens. Hamel made a great play, hustling past Lowell defenseman Donny Grover, down the wing and slipped the puck through the five-hole of Lock Monster goalie Kevin Nastiuk to give Binghamton a 1-0 advantage.

With only 1:04 left on the clock in the second period, Sens defenseman Neil Petruic scored his first professional goal to help his club to a 2-0 lead. Hamel recorded an assist for his second point of the night. Cory Pecker also recorded an assist on the Petruic tally.

With his team still up 2-0, Greg Watson extended the advantage to three goals with his sixth goal of the year. Watson, playing in his first game since returning from a back injury, received a pass from Jeff Heerema and fired a wrist shot over the catching glove of Nastiuk.

While trying to hold on to the 3-0 lead, Binghamton's penalty-killing unit was called upon to step up when Danny Bois received a five-minute major and a game misconduct for boarding. The Sens kept the Lock Monsters off the board thanks to a great penalty kill and a few fantastic saves from goalie Kelly Guard.

Pecker then picked up his second point of the night when he was able to deflect a Steve Martins shot into the net and give Binghamton the 4-0 lead. Petruic also recorded an assist for his second point of the evening.

Lowell, on the power play, would eventually break Guard's shutout when Daniel DaSilva redirected Keith Aucoin's shot past the Binghamton net minder at the 16:29 mark of the third.

Guard was outstanding between the pipes for the Sens while he turned away 35 of Lowell's 36 shots. The rookie earned first star of the game honors for his efforts. Nastiuk was saddled with the loss for Lowell and stopped 24 of 28 offerings.

Binghamton finished the night zero of four with the man advantage while DaSilva's tally was Lowell's only goal on eight opportunities.

Binghamton will enjoy a brief holiday break before returning to action on Monday, December 26 when they welcome the Albany River Rats to the Arena for the first time this season. The game is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. face off and ticket information is available by calling (607) 722-SENS.
