Harrisburg Senators News Release
Jordan Smith lined a go-ahead RBI triple in the top of the ninth inning to lead the Akron RubberDucks to a 2-1 victory on Friday night with 5,157 fans in attendance at Metro Bank Park.
Smith was able to drive a 3-2 pitch from Neil Holland over the head of a sprinting Michael Taylor in centerfield to push the Ducks in front. Senators' starter Brian Dupra turned in five solid innings, allowing a run on six hits to Western Division-leading Akron. Lefty Bryan Harper followed with two shutout innings. Holland pitched a perfect eighth inning before walking the leadoff man in the ninth and allowing Smith's triple.
The Senators scored their lone run in the second inning as Jason Martinson and Caleb Ramsey both singled to start the inning. With Quincy Latimore batting, Martinson and Ramsey executed a double steal to station runners on second and third. Latimore would follow with an RBI groundout to score Martinson. The Senators had plenty of other chances to score as they stranded a runner at third base in five of nine at-bats. A runner was at second when the inning ended in two other trips to the plate for Harrisburg. Matt Skole was 3-for-4 with his team-leading 15th double of the season.
Tomorrow night, the Senators will send former Akron pitcher Paolo Espino to the mound to face his former team. The RubberDucks will counter with right-hander Cody Anderson. Harrisburg will attempt to break their five-game losing streak in a 6:00 p.m. start at Metro Bank Park. The game can be heard beginning with the pregame show at 5:45 p.m. on 1460 AM or via senatorsbaseball.com, 1460theticket.com or the iHeart Radio app.
The Senators box office is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available via telephone during the same hours as the box office hours. Tickets are also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, online at www.senatorsbaseball.com.
