PORTLAND, Maine - The Curve offense couldn't get started on Friday night in Portland and ended up falling in both games of the pseudo doubleheader, 4-2 and, 3-0. With the losses, the Curve are 26-45 at the halfway point of the 2014 season.

In the suspended game, Yao-Hsun Yang took to the bump to start it before he would begin serving his suspension for his role in the incident on Wednesday in New Hampshire. Portland struck early off Yang, scoring in the fourth inning when Sean Coyle homered with one on to turn a 2-1 game into a 4-1 game.

The homer proved to be enough as the Curve were only able to score one run late in the game on an Alen Hanson RBI fielder's choice to pull within two. Ryan Beckman did admirable work out of the bullpen to keep it close, going a season high 3.1 innings and allowing only two hits while whiffing three.

In the second game, Joan Montero (2-2) struggled with command and walked five in his 3.2 innings. Portland scored twice in the bottom of the first off Montero, who was making his second start (22nd appearance) of the season. With two down in the first, David Chester burned Montero for a two-out single to score Jonathan Roof and Blake Swihart for the game's first runs.

Portland never looked back from there as the league leader in ERA Henry Owens (9-3) took over in the game. While he wasn't overpowering, he did get the job done and tossed a seven-inning, complete-game shutout while whiffing eight.

Junior Sosa had his first two hits in Double-A in the loss in the second game. Drew Maggi and Matt Curry both had their five-game hit streaks end as they were held hitless.

Altoona (26-45) and Portland (47-25) will play a true doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday night at Hadlock Field. LHP Joely Rodriguez (3-5, 4.22) will start in Game 1 for the Curve and be opposed by Sea Dogs lefty Brian Johnson (5-1, 1.71). In the second game, Matt Benedict (0-4, 8.35) makes the spot start for the Curve while Portland has yet to announce a starter.

Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
