Erie SeaWolves News Release
The Erie SeaWolves failed in their attempt to win two in a row for the second time of the season as they fell to 2-2 with a 6-2 loss in Harrisburg on Thursday night. The win for the Senators (1-6) was their first of the season.
For the fourth consecutive game, the SeaWolves struck first. In the top of the third, Clete Thomas walked and Mike Hollimon singled to put runners on the corners for Jeff Larish. Larish hit a rocket at first baseman Robin Jennings, Jennins was able to make the putout at first, but Thomas scored from third, giving Erie a 1-0 lead. With two outs in the inning, Jackson Melian singled home Hollimon for a 2-0 SeaWolves advantage.
The Senators tied the game in the bottom of the third. Dan Dement singled to start the inning and Josh Whitesell followed with a base knock to right. On the play, right fielder Andres Torres over threw Kody Kirkland at third attempting to put out Dement and Whitesell advanced to second on the error. With one out, Roger Bernadina singled home both runs, tying the game at 2-2.
Harrisburg would take their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when catcher John Suomi connected on his first home run of the season with two outs. The solo home run put the Senators up 3-2.
The Senators added another run in the seventh on Whitesell's first home run of the season for a 4-2 lead.
Harrisburg would add a pair in the eighth on a Christian Guerrero base knock, bringing home Tony Blanco and Jennings.
Erie starter Eddie Bonine (0-1) went five innings allowing three runs off of four hits and took the loss. Bonine did not allow a walk and he struck out three. It was the second time an Erie starter did not allow a walk in a game. The other came with Dallas Trahern tossing six shutout innings on Opening Day.
