The Labour Day Classic on Monday, Sept. 7 is completely sold out. As a result of additional temporary seats added for Grey Cup at McMahon Stadium, the Calgary Stampeders and Edmonton Eskimos are able to play in front of 40,729 fans, the largest crowd in Labour Day history.
This is their second meeting of 2009, as the Esks took the first matchup 38-35 on Aug. 13 in Edmonton. The Stamps will travel to Edmonton on Sept. 11 before hosting the Eskimos on Oct. 23.
The Stampeders and Homes by Avi are teaming up on Labour Day to present the 19th annual Be a Fan, Bring a Can food drive in support of the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the game in the hope of eclipsing last year's mark of $72,524 worth of food and cash donations.
Prior to the game, members of the Stampeders Outriders will be at entrance gates selling their 2010 calendar.The first 15,000 fans in attendance will receive limited edition noisemaker cheer cards courtesy of Home by Avi and the Stampeders.
At halftime, participants from the WorldSkills competition being held in Calgary will be recognized in a celebration of WorldSkills champions.
The next Stamps home game is Sept. 25 against the BC Lions. Kickoff is 8 p.m. at McMahon Stadium. Tickets are still available and fans are encouraged to pick up their tickets by contacting Ticketmaster (403.777.0000 or online at Ticketmaster.ca) or visiting any local Safeway or Sport Chek location.
