Philadelphia Union II News Release
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Bethlehem Steel FC forward Seku Conneh has been called up to the Liberian National Team ahead of the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Togo on June 5, the club announced. Conneh will return on June 6 and will miss Steel FC's game against New York Red Bulls II on Sunday.
Conneh, 20, joined Bethlehem Steel FC on Jan. 26, 2016 from FC Oss of Holland's second division Eerste Divisie. Conneh has appeared in nine games for Steel FC this season registering 13 shots with six on target.
"Seku has proved a valuable contributor and works hard on both sides of the ball," Bethlehem Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke said. "We will miss him for the game against New York Red Bulls II, but are pleased that he has been recognized by his country for the qualifier against Togo."
It is the second time this year that Conneh has joined the Liberian national team for African Cup of Nations qualifiers. The forward joined his countrymen to face Djibouti in late March in which Liberia fell 1-0 on March 24, but gained revenge winning 5-0 on March 29.
Conneh made his debut for Liberia on Nov. 15, 2015 as a substitute entering in the 73rd minute in the World Cup qualifying match against Ivory Cost.
Steel FC return to Lehigh University's Goodman Stadium on Sunday, June 5 to face New York Red Bulls II at 4 p.m. Tickets are available at www.bethlehemsteelfc.com or by calling 844-STEELFC.
