Saint Louis FC News Release
Saint Louis FC drops its 3rd round U.S. Open Cup match to Minnesota United FC 2-0.
It was a scoreless first half for both teams with Irvin Herrera accumulating three shots. Mark Pais made a close left handed save after a Minnesota free kick in the 44th minute. The half concluded with a yellow card issued on AJ Cochran.
In the 69th minute, a Saint Louis FC defensive lapse led to an opportunity for Minnesota which J.C. Banks capitalized on, pulling the NASL side ahead 1-0. The second Minnesota goal came from Jack Blake in added time off a cross from Danny Cruz.
Saint Louis suffered from many fouls, ending the match with 15 to Minnesota's 3.
STLFC Head Coach Dale Schilly believes the team played well given the circumstances.
"I am so happy with the effort and fight they put in after playing 7 games in 21 days. The fact that we were fighting, scratching, and clawing into the 90th minute says everything about what these players are made of."
Saint Louis FC resumes league play this weekend when it travels to take on Colorado Springs Switchbacks on Saturday, June 4th.
STLFC returns home on June 11 to face the Tulsa Roughnecks at 7:30 p.m. For tickets, contact an Account Executive at 636.680.0997, tickets@saintlouisfc.com, or visit saintlouisfc.com today!
