New York Boulders News Release
(Ramapo, NY) Offense was the story at Provident Bank Park this afternoon as the Bears and Boulders exploded for a combined 15 runs with Newark squeaking out an 8-7 victory.
Rockland started things off in the bottom of first when Phillip Cuadrado knocked in his third and fourth RBI's of the series with a one-out double that gave the Boulders an early 2-0 lead. That lead would extend to 3-0 in the bottom of the second when Brandon Pinckney singled to drive in Billy Alvino.
But the Bears were not going to surrender. In the top of the third Newark strung together three runs off of Rockland starter MacKenzie King. The righty's struggles continued into the fourth when Dan Coury brought home D'Angelo Jimenez on a double that gave Newark a 4-3 lead. That would be the end of the day for King who allowed the four runs on seven hits in his three and a third innings of work.
The Bears scored another in the top of the fifth on a Quentin Davis homer before the Boulders scored two of their own in the bottom of the inning. Cole Kraft's triple would bring in Ryan Mollica and Kraft would score on an Alvino putout. When the dust settled after five innings, the game was tied at five.
The Boulders took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a solo shot from Qualon Millender. The home run marked the first of the year for the outfielder.
Newark would regain the lead in the top of the seventh on two runs off of Rockland reliever Chris Rubio. The Boulders battled back to tie the game at seven in the latter half of the inning when Chris Valencia singled to drive in Ryan Scoma.
But the Bears would have the last laugh when John Patrick Reardon hit a ground ball to short that was bobbled by Cole Kraft and allowed Mike Richard to score making the final 8-7. Newark reliever Zachary Goyer was awarded the win while Garrett Johnson was charged with the loss.
The Boulders finish the five-game series with Newark tomorrow at 7 P.M. at Provident Bank Park. Be sure to stay after the game for a fireworks extravaganza. You can purchase tickets at the Provident Bank Park Box office or by clicking the tickets tab on the top of the page.
