August 1, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release

The Jackals continued their offensive prowess Wednesday with an 8-1 win over the Worcester Tornadoes. Coming off a walk-off loss, Jackals pitching responded with 11 collective strikeouts.

Catering to the Jackals' Can-Am-high .295 team average, Chris Curran began his 3-5 day with a single in the first. Bryan Sabatella's sacrifice fly later that inning was the first of three Jackals hitters would sky. Sabatella ended the day 1-3 with a home run and three RBIs.

The 1-0 New Jersey lead gave the Jackals a first-inning run in five straight games against Worcester.

The Jackals lead 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth when leadoff hitter Jerod Edmondson hit his second home run in as many days with hit an opposite-field, solo home run to left. It would be the only run Dustin Birosak gave up.

The Jackals starter threw arguably his best outing of the season. Birosak allowed only one run off five Tornado hits. He walked two and struck out a season-high seven in his fourth start of the year. He improves to 3-2.

The trio of Jake Wiley, Zach Woods, and Jimmer Kennedy combined for three one-hit, scoreless frames to cement Birosak's win. Kennedy struck out the side in order in the ninth.

Dan Sausville, who shut out the Jackals in Worcester on June 3rd, allowed five runs off nine hits in five-and-two-third innings. He walked and struck out three.

Nick Salotti lead the Jackals offense. His seventh-inning home run highlighted his 4-5 day. He is now 20-38 (.526) in six games against his former team.

Chris Curran continues to smack line drives. His 3-5, RBI day in the leadoff spot pushed his average up to .425 in his last 80 at bats (34-80).

With the win, the Jackals return to 12 games over .500 at 41-29. They're four games back of the 45-25 Capitales and three games ahead of the 38-32 Rockland Boulders. Rockland lost a seesaw, 8-7 battle to Newark earlier today. Quebec erased a 5-0 deficit to defeat the American Association's Sioux Falls Pheasants 11-6.

Tomorrow, the Jackals will summon Isaac Pavlik (7-2, 3.74). The lefty looks to extend his all-time Jackals win (62) and strikeout (677) records. Right-hander David Cooper (4-6, 5.35) throws for the Tornadoes.
