Can-Am League Game Recap
August 1, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Newark 8, Rockland 7
An untimely error in the top of the eighth swung a back-and-forth game between the Newark Bears and the Rockland Boulders in Newark's favor. Bears SS Mike Richard (pictured) came home to score the eventual winning run on a two-out error by Rockland SS Cole Kraft, as the Bears won 8-7 in Rockland.
Newark overcame an early three-run deficit to take a 5-3 lead in the fifth. Richard contributed to the initial comeback with an RBI double and a run scored in the third. However, Rockland came right back with two runs to tie it in the bottom half of the inning, then regained the lead on a home run by OF Qualon Millender in the sixth. The teams traded blows in the seventh, ultimately leaving the inning tied at 7-7 before the Rockland error handed Newark the winning run.
Newly-signed RHP Zachary Goyer picked up his first win after coming in to relieve starter Pedro Rivera in the seventh. Jorge Vasquez left runners on first and second in the ninth to hang on for his 11th save.
