Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- Columbus starting pitcher Chris Seddon struck out five over six scoreless innings, before relievers Hector Ambriz and Jeremy Accardo combined for three innings of scoreless relief to finish out the contest and give the Clippers a 4-0 victory over the Indianapolis Indians on Thursday afternoon at Victory Field.
Seddon (W, 6.0 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K) wasn't perfect in earning the victory, allowing six hits in his six innings, but stranded five Indians batters and induced one double play, preventing any Indianapolis baserunner from reaching third base. The southpaw sent the Indians down in order in both the first and fourth innings and also only faced three batters in the fifth inning thanks to a caught stealing by Tribe LF Starling Marte.
Columbus gave Seddon an early lead, scoring in the second inning when LF Ryan Spilborghs singled and then crossed the plate on C Matt Pagnozzi's double to the left field wall.
The Clippers tallied three more runs in the top of the third inning, sparked by CF Ezequiel Carrera's lead-off triple to center field. Carrera would score one batter later on a double by 2B Cord Phelps, before Phelps came in when 3B Lonnie Chisenhall collected a two-bagger of his own. The double by Chisenhall was Columbus' third straight extra-base hit to start the inning and put him in scoring position where he would later score the final run of the inning and game on RF Trevor Crowe's two-out single.
Columbus scored all of its runs against Tribe starter Daniel McCutchen (L, 2.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 0 K), who was making his first start since July 31, 2010, when he started for the Pittsburgh Pirates in a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. McCutchen was thrust into the starting role due to the absence of RHP Brad Lincoln, who was recalled by Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
The Tribe's bullpen put together a stellar performance while pitching the final 6.2 innings of the game. Tribe newcomers LHP Kris Johnson (2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) and RHP Tim Alderson (3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K) combined to strikeout five over 5.2 innings of relief, while LHP Daniel Moskos (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) allowed two Clippers to reach base but stranded them both while pitching the ninth.
The Indians put nine hits -- all singles -- on the board but couldn't capitalize in any inning as they left eight men on base and batted 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. SS Jordy Mercer had two of the Tribe's hits and RF Brandon Boggs continued his hot-hitting by racking up three base knocks of his own.
The Indians and Clippers will wrap up their four-game set tomorrow night at Victory Field, with the first pitch slated for 7:15 p.m. Indianapolis expects to send LHP Jo-Jo Reyes (1-0, 6.00) to the mound in search of a series split while Columbus will likely counter with RHP Zach McAllister (0-1, 4.00).
The contest will be televised on HTSN, Hometown Sports and News, available via cable or over-the-air on digital channel 6.2. The game will also be carried on WNDE 1260 AM, WNDE.com and via iheartradio, a mobile application for iPhone, Blackberry and Android phones, with Howard Kellman and Will Flemming on the call. The pre-game show begins at 6:55 p.m.

Post-game quotes -- RF Brandon Boggs (courtesy of Jen Miller)
(On playing every inning for the Indians so far this year) "It's actually something I have to get used to again. Last year I was bench player but, you know, I'm getting back into the swing of things. I've always been a player that's played every day anyway, so it's good to know I'm going to be out there every day and know my name is going to be on the lineup card every day."
(On being first on the team in runs and home runs) "Right now it means a lot [to me], because I just wanted to start off well after a pretty bad spring training. Things happen, I'm gaining my confidence right now and it's just showing out the on the baseball field."
(On the Tribe starting outfield of Boggs, Starling Marte and Gorkys Hernandez) "It's one of the best outfields I've ever been a part of. Marte and [Hernandez] are a little bit younger than me but, you know, they're fast, we're all fast, we can all get to balls and we can all back each other up so we can make good plays and diving plays. This is a big outfield [at Victory Field], so we're going to need that speed."
