Charlotte Knights News Release

(Fort Mill, SC) -- The Charlotte Knights got a big four-run seventh inning and another key hit from Dallas McPherson to defeat the Durham Bulls 5-2 and sweep the four-game series Thursday night at Knights Stadium. The Knights pulled their record to 8-7 on the year.

Charlotte did most of their damage after the seventh-inning stretch as they trailed 2-1. Jordan Danks led off with a walk and then stole second. Greg Golson fouled out trying to bunt him over to third and Ozzie Martinez struck out.

With two outs, however, the Knights started a key rally.

Tyler Kuhn and Jim Gallagher walked to load the bases for the hot-hitting McPherson. McPherson, who entered the game 5-11 with two home runs on the homestand -- doubled high off the corner of the left field wall to clear the bases and give the Knights their first lead of the night, 4-2. He was 1-3 with a walk and three RBIs.

For the series, McPherson had a home run and two-run double on Monday, a two-run homer Tuesday and reached base safely every time on Wednesday. He was 6-for-14 with two homers, four doubles, eight RBI and four walks in the series. Conor Jackson followed McPherson's double with another shot off the left field wall to drive him in and provide the final margin, 5-2.

Charlotte starter Terry Doyle was sharp over six innings but did not factor in the decision. Instead, it was reliever Anthony Carter (1-1, 3.18), who earned the victory after two innings on the hill. Carter allowed a run in the seventh inning, but that was it.

In all, Doyle allowed just one hit and one run and struck-out a season-high nine batters.

For the third straight day, Brian Bruney came on to close it out in the ninth. With the tying run at the plate, he struck out Nevin Ashley swinging to end the game and complete the four-game sweep. Bruney is now 3-for-3 in save opportunities this season.

The four-game series sweep was the Knights first since April 7-10 of last season. They opened the 2011 season by sweeping the Norfolk Tides in a four-game series.

The Knights open up a three-game series with the first-place Gwinnett Braves Friday night at 7:15 p.m. LHP Eric Stults (1-0, 1.64) will take the hill for Charlotte against LHP Yohan Flande (1-0, 0.00). Former Atlanta Braves great and two-time NL MVP Dale Murphy will be on-hand for a Meet and Greet session, thanks to Nissin Foods. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
