TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons host the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the finale of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (1:05 p.m.). The Herd is looking for the series win following back-to-back 4-1 wins over the IronPigs. The Bisons are 4-4 on their first homestand of the season, which ends today. The team leaves for a six-game roadtrip to Syracuse and Lehigh Valley tomorrow.
vs. IRONPIGS: The Bisons are 2-1 against the IronPigs this year. With a victory today, the Herd can pull even with Lehigh Valley in the all-time match-up (currently 34-33 IronPigs). A win today would also be the first time either of the clubs won three straight against the other since Buffalo won three consecutive contests in Lehigh Valley, August 9-10 and September 3, 2010.
MIRROR IMAGES: The Bisons have posted nearly identical 4-1 wins over Lehigh Valley the last two nights. The final lines for the pitchers are almost the same: Tuesday RHP CHRIS SCHWINDEN - 7.0IP, 4H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 1K. Wednesday RHP JEREMY HEFNER - 7.0IP, 4H, 1R, 0ER, 1BB, 3K. In both games, the IronPigs scored first before the Herd scored four unanswered runs.
OLE, OLE: LHP GARRETT OLSON gets his third start of the season today. The southpaw is coming off a defeat his last time out, allowing four runs -but only one earned- in 4.1 innings of work on Saturday against Pawtucket. Olson earned a no-decision in his other start this year, allowing one run in five innings on April 9 in Rochester.
TIPPIN' THE SCALES: INF BOBBY SCALES reached base two more times last night with a walk and an RBI-double. The veteran has reached at least twice in all 11 games he has started in 2012. Unbelievably, his league-leading on-base percentage went down to .551 last night. Even still, it is 51 points higher than any other batter in the International league. Scales also ranks second with a .436 (17-39) average and third with a .718 slugging percentage.
BISONS BITS: C LUCAS MAY has tripled in back-to-back games. The last Bisons catcher to have two triples in one season was C ROBINSON CANCEL with two in 2009. INF ZACH LUTZ is hitting .393 (11-29) this homestand.
METS UPDATE : The Mets (7-5) lost the series finale against Atlanta yesterday, 14-6. New York ended their first roadtrip of the season at 3-3. Former Bisons INF IKE DAVIS homered for the third time in four games. INF KIRK NIEUWENHUIS had three hits and three runs scored. The Mets are off today and will host the Giants on Friday.
