YOU ARE THE WIND BENEATH MY WINGS: The Rochester Red Wings tonight close out their 6-game road trip with the finale of their 4-game "road" series against the Empire State Yankees at Frontier Field. The Wings tomorrow return home for the start of a 6-game homestand with the first of 3 vs. Lehigh Valley (Phillies). After the first offday Monday, Rochester welcomes Bryce Harper and the Syracuse Chiefs (Nationals) to town for a 3-game set Tuesday-Thursday.

aDue to Game One of the Rochester Americans first-round playoff series against the Toronto Marlies, tonight's game can be heard on WYSL 1040 AM or FM 92.1. The same scenario applies to Saturday's 1:00 p.m. game vs. Lehigh Valley as the 6-time Calder Cup champs play Game 2 in Toronto.

aThe Red Wings are 14 games into a stretch of playing 18 days in a row to open the season. After the first offday on Monday, Rochester will play a season-high 29 days in a row through May 22.

aThe Red Wings are scheduled to play 25 games in April, their most in the season-opening month since 2008, when they played 27 contests and went 13-14. The season that year started on April 3, 2 days before the April 5 opener this season.

THAT IS BRISK, BABY!: In the shortest 9-inning game at Frontier Field since July 5, 2001, the Empire State Yankees defeated the Red Wings 2-0 in a brisk one hour and 54 minutes. The game was 2 minutes longer than that July 5, 2001 contest, which Rochester won 2-0 vs. Buffalo (Indians). Last night's feature was the Red Wings' shortest 9-inning game overall since August 17, 2008, when they lost 2-0 at Syracuse (Blue Jays) in one hour, 52 minutes.

aAlso last night, the Red Wings were shut out for the first time in 36 games. Their previous shutout loss was in the first game of an August 15, 2011 doubleheader, a 2-0 setback in 7 innings vs. Columbus (Indians). The Red Wings previously were shut out in a 9-inning game July 24, 2011 at Indianapolis (Pirates), a 3-0 loss. Rochester was also shut out at Frontier Field for the first time since May 31, 2011, when Toledo (Tigers) took a 5-0 decision.

START ME UP: At 7-7, the Red Wings are off to their best 14-game start since 2007, when they went 10-4 to start the year. In other "best start since" news:

aThe Red Wings have played their first 14 games without a postponement due to weather, the longest such streak to start a season since 2002. The club's 18th game that year, an April 22 clash at Buffalo (Indians), was rained out and played as part of a doubleheader the next day.

aRochester has gone 14 games into the season without playing extra innings, the longest such streak since 2003, when the Red Wings played 11 innings in their 31st game May 7 at Durham (Rays). The Wings won 4-3 that day.

TURNAROUND TIME: The Red Wings have scored an International League-low 41 runs in 14 games, averaging 2.9 runs per contest. The Wings tonight look to climb out of the cellar, trailing Syracuse (Nationals) by 4 runs and Norfolk (Orioles) by 6 runs. Syracuse today hosts Pawtucket (Red Sox) while Norfolk plays at Gwinnett (Braves).

aThe Red Wings last year scored 47 runs through their first 14 contests, but were one game worse at 6-8.

D'OH!: The Red Wings have gone 5 straight games (and 50 consecutive innings) without a home run, their longest such stretch since a 5-game drought May 11-15, 2011 (Wings went 0-5 in those games). The last Wings homer came via Michael Hollimon Friday vs. Pawtucket (Red Sox) off Aaron Cook in the 4th inning.

aRochester last went at least 6 consecutive games without a long ball during an 8-game drought May 24-June 1, 2010. The team went 2-6 in those contests and Brock Peterson ended the streak June 2 vs. Norfolk (Orioles) off Troy Patton.

aRochester has hit just 6 home runs all year. Only Empire State (5), Lehigh Valley (5), and Durham (4) have clubbed fewer. Rene Rivera leads the Wings with 2.

MAKING ITS PITCH: The Red Wings pitching staff ranks 4th in the league with a 3.22 ERA. Red Wings starting pitchers have a 2.76 ERA (23 ER/75.0 IP), which ranks 3rd in the IL among starting staffs. The Top 5 starting staffs:

Rank Team ERA_____________

1. Pawtucket 1.93 (17 ER/79.1 IP)

2. Lehigh Valley 2.54 (21 ER/74.1 IP)

3. Rochester 2.76 (23 ER/75.0 IP)

4. Gwinnett 3.13 (22 ER/63.1 IP)

5. Indianapolis 3.89 (32 ER/74.0 IP)

aRochester starters posted a 5.52 ERA (450 ER/733.2 IP) in 2011.

aCole DeVries last night worked 7.0 innings for the longest outing by a Wings starter this year.

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS: Thirteen of the Red Wings' first 14 games have been decided by 3 runs or less. Even with a 10-1 loss April 12 vs. Pawtucket, a save has been recorded in each of Rochester's 14 contests. Three different Rochester relievers have recorded at least one save, including Casey Fien (2), Tyler Robertson, and Anthony Slama, who is tied for the league lead with 4. Red Wings closers are a perfect 7-for-7 in save opportunities.
